On June 26, 1968 a self-described “gregarious Swedish building contractor” Gene Bergmark and his partner Carl Skogland opened The Silo. The barn raising began on December 7, 1967. The Silo beams and staves were forested in Wisconsin and trucked to Lake Bluff. The roof was built by “The Swede” on the ground and hoisted in place like the cork on a bottle. A design and structural challenge that must have worked, because it is still here to this day. They started with the now famous Deep Dish Pizza and built the menu from there. After about 15 years, Carl exited the business and Gene and his wife Carol operated The Silo until 1988. The Silo Restaurant was founded in 1968, it all started with the now famous Deep Dish Pizza and built the menu from there!
In 1988, Sandy (Tarman) and Larry Pike partnered with Pat and Larry Tarman to purchase The Silo from Gene. They briefly closed the restaurant for an extensive remodel; including adding windows, new doors, extending the “loft”, adding an outside deck and creating a new bar area. They also renovated the kitchen and redesigned it to bring in “state of the art” equipment to serve their guests faster. The Pike’s and Tarman’s also extended the existing menu to include great new entrees; sandwiches, salads, appetizers, stuffed potatoes and desserts. A wide array of deep dish and thin crust specialty pizzas were also added.

Love Silo Pizza!
Silo pizza is fabulous. They offer deep dish and thin crust. The thin crust is soooo good. They offer a variety of toppings and offer carryout. No delivery. If you go online to their website, you can print a $4 off coupon. The rest...Server with attitude
We ate at the Silo on Sunday August 15th, we were there when it opened at 4pm....so they weren't busy.....our server was fine at first...but, as soon as we mentioned we had the $4 coupon...seemed that her attitude changed.....The Pizza...The Place for Pizza Up North
It looks like a barn from the outside, but inside is the best place I know where to get pan pizza. It's one of those places that so good that people make sure to stop in at when they're in the area. ...Good place to eat
This is a fun place with very good food. The kids will like it as will the adult. The smoking section isn't really separated well so, depending on where you sit, you could have lots of smoke. They have sandwiches and pizza. The potatoes are huge. The food is good. If you go, go to the website and get the 50% off coupon.Silo Restaurant has good food in a relaxed atmosphere.
The Silo has been in business for many years and has consistenly been good. They specialize in pizza, but actually have a wide variety of choices on their menu. We really like their ribs. They have huge baked potatoes with all kinds of choices of toppings, like seafood in sauce, and just about anything you could think of. They are moderately priced. The atmosphere is bustling and a little noisy.Love Silo Pizza!

It was my first time there.....and don't think I will go there again.....Best Lake County Za
This place has been around forever. The deep dish gives Uno/Due -- the gold standard of Chicago deep-dish - a pretty decent run for its money. It is in an old barn, so great ambience. Great place to bring kids. Lots of other stuff on the menu. If you are in Lake County, skip Lou Malnati's in Wheeling and go for something better at the Silo in Lake Bluff.Best Pizza here in Lake County!
Be glad this place isn't down in Chicago or else you'd never have a chance to taste their pizza! It's packed enough as it is with all the Lake County residents. Get there before 11:30 for lunches or before 7 for dinners because it gets packed quick! Their deep dish pizzas are thick and the ultimate in taste; each bite is heavenly. You can get full just on their personal sized pizzas! Try their specialities like Country Italia or the Frisco, you definitely won't regret it.FUN PIZZA PLACE
