Kirton Healthcare International

Kirton was started in 1980 by Martin Battye, who, whilst working as an elderly care nurse identified a need for more appropriate, supportive seating for those with complex physical disabilities and those who are semi or non ambulant through conditions such as Dementia, Stroke, acquired brain injury or simply the ageing process.

The first Kirton products were designed by Martin himself, in consultation with Occupational Therapists and other healthcare professionals. These early products were designed to ensure a comfortable and appropriate postural position for the user and latterly incorporate the latest pressure relieving and manufacturing technologies alongside bio-mechanical and ergonomic thinking.

Kirton has become the leading specialist seating business in the UK with more than 30 models in the Specialist Seating Portfolio.

In 2010 A J Way & Co Ltd was acquired to extend the breadth of the Kirton seating range. A J Way was identified as the leader it its field for the manufacture of fireside and lift chairs. Renowned for high quality products, A J Way was the perfect partner for the Kirton Group.

2013 the Management Team affected an MBO as Martin made the decision to retire from the business albeit still helps out with product design every now and then. The Management Team intends to honor his legacy.
