Rehab centers provide a safe place for those suffering from addiction to drugs or alcohol to successfully detox, receive counseling and therapy and ultimately make a full recovery. The very first step of any successful drug or alcohol rehabilitation program is detox which is the process of effectively eliminating all residual toxins from the body and overcoming the physical dependence that is present. Following detox, most rehab centers will transition the patient into counseling and therapy which is followed by aftercare.
What is Detox?
Detox is the first step of the addiction treatment process but it is NOT rehab. During detox, the patient will overcome the physical dependence that they have on drugs or alcohol in preparation for counseling and therapy that is aimed at treating the psychological component of addiction. It’s important to keep in mind that detox is only the beginning of treatment for addiction but also that any effective rehab program will begin with a safe and successful detoxification process.
