In Emily’s tiny town of Germantown, settled by the Rockefeller family seeking religious freedom from the Palatines in Germany, you will be staying at a lovely bed & breakfast, The Central House Historic Hotel, which is a restored Rockefeller house. There is a deli/specialty food shop across the street, good for lunch and wicked treats, and a funeral parlor to be used as the need arises.
Emily lives in the stunningly beautiful Hudson Valley. Amenities and points of interest abound in the area. Hudson, 10 minutes from her house, is the antique capital of the east coast and an architecturally fascinating city, she is 5 minutes from Olana, the home of Frederick Church of the Hudson Valley school of painting, and 15 minutes from Bard College where the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, a Frank Gehry building, provides us with countless high level performances. Emily’s performance group, ARTSONG NOUVEAU, while usually sticking to classical repertoire, performed there with Carly Simon, teaming up with her for an opera she had written. Along the Hudson are the mansions of those who forged our country- Livingstons, Roosevelts (Hyde Park), Astors, Clermont, Montgomery Place.
You are welcome here! It is not scary and Emily guarantees fun as well as learning it. It is necessary to have a car- one can rent one in Hudson, Albany, or wherever you are arriving from. The 2 hour train ride from Penn station to Hudson is striking as it makes its way along the River.
