Our Attorneys
Robert Brott has been engaged in the practice of law for over 40 years. His practice includes civil litigation, real estate, township law, probate and estate planning, business law and divorce/family law. Mr. Brott grew up in Traverse City, receiving his B.A. from Central Michigan University in 1968 and his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Wayne State University in 1971. He was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1972 and is admitted to practice before all Courts in Michigan. He has been a member of the Grand Traverse-Leelanau-Antrim Bar Association, and served as President during the 1979-1980 term. He has served as President and on the Board of Trustees of the former Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital.
Philip A. Settles has been with the firm for 20 years and is well practiced in all phases of criminal and civil litigation. Over the years Philip has narrowed his field of expertise to criminal, real estate, family and divorce, as well as business law. Philip attended the Detroit College of Law, while bartending at night, and graduated in 1985. Thereafter he worked on his own in Detroit until he moved to Elk Rapids in 1989 and began working in Traverse City, as an associate to lawyer, Robert Witkop, to support his litigation practice. In the following few years Philip and Robert Brott became close friends, and Philip joined the office 1992.
Wilson D. Brott has been practicing law since November 1994 and is a lifelong Traverse City resident. He received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 1991 and his Juris Doctorate degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1994. His practice includes estate planning & probate administration, criminal defense, Tribal law, real estate, contracts and business formation, civil litigation, and family law., and specializes in criminal defense and Tribal law, but also practices in real estate law, civil litigation, estate planning and probate administration, and family law.
Mr. Brott served as the Chief Judge for the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Tribal Court from September 2007 through September 2009. He also served as the Associate Judge for the Tribal Court from 2002-2007 (part-time). Mr. Brott was also a part-time Assistant Prosecutor for Leelanau County from January 2003 to September 2009. Prior to that, he was in private practice in Suttons Bay from 2002 through 2006, and previously practiced with Brott, Kipley, Settles, Shumar & Brott, P.C. from 1997 through 2002. Mr. Brott is married and has a daughter in college.
