The Detroit Association of Black Organizations, (dabo), Inc.

Thepurpose of this organization shall be as follows. To enable the Black community to come together,to work together, to reason together and to act together, consensually, in theBlack community as well as the total communitys transcendent interests. Toachieve maximum empowerment of the Black community. To foster and uphold thedignity and the integrity of the Black community. To provide the basis for amore enlightened and responsible public opinion in the non-black community onthe important problems and interests of Black people. To advance the cultural,economic, political, and social interests of the Black community at all levels;local; state; national and international. To be a vigorous and unremittingadvocate and preservator of the civil rights of Black people; and to be anaggressive and uncompromising defender whenever those rights are imperiled. Tobe an effective bridge between non-black groups and institutions and the Blackcommunity in the interests of achieving mutual understandings, the pursuit ofshared goals and the resolution of shared concerns. To provide, through theestablishment of a voluntary mechanism for arbitration and conciliation,creative opportunities for the resolution of divisive conflicts and disputesbetween Black organizations and individuals; conflicts and disputes that wouldotherwise erode the Black communitys unity and dissipate its strength. Toraise and secure funds to support the educational and charitable purposes setforth above and other kindred causes that, in the considered judgment of theAssociation, will serve a demonstrable, constructive, interest or need of the Black community.
