Vivek Agrawal, MD, a nationally recognized orthopedic surgeon, specializes in shoulder surgery. For over a decade, Dr. Agrawal has successfully treated patients from across the United States and around the world. He’s the only shoulder specialist at the Arizona Center for Hand Surgery, a state-of-the-art medical practice with locations in Phoenix, the Northwest Valley, and Mesa, Arizona.
As a renowned shoulder specialist both nationally and internationally, patients travel from countries as far away as Saudi Arabia, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Japan, Germany, Mexico, and Canada to see Dr. Agrawal. He also offers remote consultations to ensure that he can meet the needs of his patients before they travel for an in-person exam.
Dr. Agrawal’s interest in shoulder care was born out of an injury he sustained while playing competitive tennis in college when a lack of available treatment options piqued his interest in advancements in shoulder care.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Agrawal went on to earn his medical degree at Indiana University, where he then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. He also served as a major in the United States Air Force.
His injury and growing interest in shoulder mechanics led him to seek advanced hands-on training in shoulder surgery, with some of the world’s most highly regarded surgeons. Successful treatment of his own injury has been fundamental in driving him to develop highly specialized expertise in arthroscopic and reconstructive shoulder techniques.
Dr. Agrawal is currently one of just a handful of surgeons in the United States with expertise performing reverse shoulder replacement and is among less than 1% of American surgeons skilled at using arthroscopic techniques to repair complex shoulder tears. In addition to being a leader in arthroscopic shoulder surgery, he’s proud to have had thousands of physician and patient referrals. “The most important thing to me is to take care of my patients,” Dr. Agrawal says. “The highest compliment is to have physicians and patients refer friends and family to me.”
He’s an active member of the several national surgical organizations, as well as a regular participant in shoulder-related education and research, to fulfill his desire to develop better options for patient care. Dr. Agrawal is honored to be included among the “10 Shoulder Surgeons to Know in America” by Becker’s Hospital Review.
