PSYCHIC COUNSELING
he word “intuit” and “intuition” are defined in the Oxford Complete Wordfinder as the following: “intuit”...to receive knowledge by direct perception. Intuition is defined as: “immediate apprehension by the mind without reasoning and it is considered immediate insight.”
The following is a list of words that many people may use when trying to explain the experience of “intuition”: instinct, insight, inspiration, sixth sense, extrasensory perception (ESP), premonition, foreboding, hunch, impression, notion, inkling, funny feeling, and sneaking suspicion. The Buddhism word for intuition is “satori” which means “sudden enlightenment.”
Parapsychology research uses the word “psi” which is the knowing and sensing that over extends logic, analysis, and rational thoughts. We know this to be referred to in other terms such as: intuition, ESP, psychic ability, telepathy, clairvoyance, and other descriptions of paranormal intelligence.
Many researchers in various professional fields would like to know how one would get this useful information which seems to bypass the normal cognitive thoughts, perceptions or logic.
There are three ways of “knowing” and sometimes we can get confused about the difference in each one. All of us can receive knowledge that comes from personal life experience.
A traditional counselor or therapist, with personal life experiences known as "knowledge” may have a minimum of intuitive abilities. They would have acquired professional training. They may provide quality counseling BUT may not have the depth of intuitive/psychic experiences to help the client gain deeper insight for greater personal change and development. The professional training along with intuitive/psychic skills are crucial today with the rapid changes and stress experienced in life whether one is the therapist or the client.
The second way of "knowing" is through intuition. One may notice that highly intuitive professional people may call themselves “intuitive counselors, seers, spiritual advisors, medical intuitives, or empathics, etc. Much of this may come about due to the overall social stigma and long history of confusion and fear associated with the word 'psychic' which is a higher level of functioning of the mind beyond the body.”
The third way of "knowing" is that of “psychic.” Just like intuition, the word psychic indicates an ability to bypass the five senses and the psychic "knowing" appears to be a deeper state of the mind with information that seems to come from out of nowhere at odd or unpredictable times with no apparent reason for the timing of the information. It is almost certain to be personally transformative in nature with others. This type of knowledge goes well beyond a traditional counseling session. This can be very transformative and healing for the client. Many times there can be a breakthrough in fewer sessions for the client due to this higher level of knowledge within a session.
