Our early beginnings

A small group of educators with $856 in assets founded Extra Credit Union in 1954. They actually worked in an unused high school classroom. Through a commitment to education, community, and service, ECU grew, and today, has more than 19,000 members, with some $200 million in assets.

Serving the community

Extra Credit Union is known for its heart to serve through offering help, guidance, counsel, and programs for the entire community. We operate two full-service branches, which includes our state-of-the-art headquarters in Warren and our Sterling Heights branch location.

We honor our roots in the educational sector in Macomb County, that’s why we’re known as “Extra Credit Union”. It has been a pleasure helping those in our community for over 60 years, therefore we’ve expanded our membership eligibility to give access to even more people to include those who reside, work, worship or attend schools within the Michigan counties of Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, and St. Clair.

Extra Credit Union provides hands-on learning, financial fundamentals, and customized services to help thousands of local students in making good financial decisions. Further, we support our teachers with many different opportunities. Your membership helps support these essential school programs.
