Selling Thanksgiving Turkey has become a great tradition for Wynnorr Farm. The community’s fresh local food customers just can’t get enough.
Matt Ventrella has been a part of the Wynnorr Farm extended family for the last two decades. He started selling turkeys on the farm during a Thanksgiving season, back when he was in high school. As an added bonus for Wynnorr’s local farm customers, offering fresh local turkey became the last big event before the quiet of winter. The turkey business became an instant success. Customers rave over how much easier the birds are to prepare, faster to cook, and most of all better tasting than the regular supermarket fare.
Matt continued his passion for poultry into college; earning degrees in Agri-Business and Poultry Science, from Penn Sate University. He loves working with birds so much, that his stay at Penn Sate included a dorm room inside the poultry research facilities. He literally lived among the birds! After college, Matt began a career in the poultry industry in Delmarva, DE. He continued managing the fall turkey operation out of his love for the farm. This year Matt has been able to return to Pennsylvania taking a position with a local food company. He has partnered with his brother-in-law Josh Thornton to expand the holiday turkey and fall activity programs on the farm. Hoping this further reach into Chester and Delaware Counties will allow Wynnorr Farm to offer more fresh local food choices and fun family activities to the community.
