Excellent Greek food and service
I've been to the NYC location several times and loved it so I decided to try the Astoria location last night...I must say that everything from the ambiance, the food, the drinks and the service was amazing. We ordered the grilled squid and zuccini fritters to start and they were both delicious. The manager treated us to a comp octopus app and that was excellent as well. We ordered the loup de mer and dorado - the freshest grilled fish we've had in a long time and the sauce was tasty. Go for the white sangria - the house recipe is sweet and refreshing. The service was impeccable - from the manager to the waiter to the bus boys. The manager had given us a round of drinks to start (after hearing we were repeat customers from the NYC locale) - these drinks mistakenly showed up on the bill but we didn't have the heart to tell our waiter because we felt so spoiled. The outdoor patio is connected to their lounge/club, and surprisingly, the outdoor space was very transporting. All in all an excellent dining experience and we will definitely be back with friends.Delicious Food and Exceptional Service
The first time I visited this restaurant, it was very late on a weeknight and I'd just had a guest arrive from out of town. Despite the fact that it was late and we were among the last few diners, the staff was inviting, more than accomodating, and didn't rush us one bit. We had delicious food that was flavorful and fresh. Since this experience I've had many more equally as good visits and was so excited that they opened a location in Manhattan as well.what is the fuzz all about
..the deco is soooo nice that we expected the service and food to be the same ... the Waiter was very slow that we thought it was a tactic for us to order more appetizers but then the greek spreed took 20something min. to arrive the fish was good not great I had better.. thank god my company was great it made up for the wait...ups did i tell u that the fondue we orderd wasnt lid and when we told the waiter he told us nobody in the kitchen told him to lid the candle ...wowWhere do I even begin...
Folks, this restaurant was a complete dissappointment. There was prompt seating but truly slow service. The appetizers were just, well, nothing special. The calamari, octopus, and saganaki were acceptable. The roka salad was embarrassing - simply store bought and prewashed - had been stored in the kitchen for too long. You can get all of this in any of Astoria's many Greek restaurants for a much lower price and better quality. The best bet was the fish, of wich I myself had the Porgy and also tried the red snapper. This was ok. But unfortunately I must say, the food was mediocre at best.local delight
been to ammos nyc as well, have to say, this one is cozy and i love the atmosphere. It's great for big groups. I saw a bday party next to our table and looked like alot of fun. Don't be suprised to find similar quality to manhattan in astoria for less price. definitely hard to get to by mass transit though.Food is HORRIBLE
When I first came to Ammos a couple of years ago, the food was decent. I guess the fact that these people created a "name" for themselves has allowed them to not care anymore. I recently went to Ammos for Valentine's Day and got a HUGE FATTY piece of steak....I'm sorry but nobody likes to see that....It was dry and disgusting- I only took one bite. More recently I was there for a bridal shower and ordered the chicken breast and oh boy did I get it. They didn't even have the audacity to slice it thinner- it was a BIG BLOB of meat (HELLOOOO! GROSS!) and the vegetables were raw and unseasoned! i don't know what is happening to this place but they lost so many customers as a result! Wake up people! Not getting a second chance from me!!
One of the worst dining experiences ive had in NY. Our reservation got lost and we were taken to a cold part of the restaurant where a group of waiters ogled my wife for the remaining evening. Our waiter promised we would enjoy the "fresh" fish only to deliver a burnt, poorly seasoned and butchered portion. The "wine expert" clearly had no idea what he was talking about and tried to pass off a bottle of house wine as his premium stock. He took very good care of the neighboring VIP customers who were smoking though and ignored us when we asked for the temperature and volume to be adjusted.Below average..
Do you enjoy awful service and near-deafening noise? How about greek food inferior to your local gyro shop at gourmet prices? Or wine prices only a hedge-fun manager could love? If the answer is "yes" to any of these answers, Ammos is for you!Worldwide > United States > Astoria, Queens, NY > Seafood Restaurants
