Great Happy Hour!
I visited Ama Ama for the first time recently for their Happy Hour. I was immediately impressed right from the moment I walked through the door. It is so stylish and sleek inside, with great accents and dark colors. The music that played was a fun mellow Chicago House. My favorite kind of music. The staff was attentive and served water and menus right away. I ordered the Po Boy and Lamb Slider, and 1/2 dozen oysters. The Po Boy slider was very good and the Lamb Slider was to die for! The oysters were nice and cold and just so tasty! I could not help but smile after gulping down each oyster.Decent food, poor service
I recently went to Ama Ama for the first time with a large party (they have two rooms set aside for big groups, so one would assume they could handle this). After ordering drinks, we waited about 15 minutes before any of them started to arrive, which was a sign of what was to come. We placed our appetizer and dinner orders at 7:30. Appetizers started showing up around 7:45, but only a few at a time; the last ones arrived around 8pm. Entrees did not appear until about 8:30, and again a few at a time. Three of us (out of 16) did not receive our dinner until after 9pm, at which point several people had already finished their meals and had their plates cleared. And the two most delayed dishes were just pasta! The server did apologize for the delay, explaining that the kitchen was "overwhelmed" with the size of our party...but of course they knew the size of our party well in advance. She did not offer any type of compensation until we specifically requested that the two pasta orders be comped. Several drink orders never appeared and had to be re-ordered.Great Seafood & New Menu - we like the music too!
I have to agree with a poster below - the atmosphere is sophisticated yet unpretentious. The servers are very nice if not hurried sometimes. We checked out their new menu - we've felt the food at Ama Ama has always been decent to really good. But the new menu is some of the best seafood we've had in Seattle in awhile. Crab cake mac and cheese - so good. Roasted cod and crusted catfish. Yum. The happy hour (if we can ever get there that early or stay that late for late night happy hour) the 0.75 oysters are pretty good - best deal in town at that. We'll be back especially as someone else said, w/ all the great music they play.Service could have made the difference
We went to Ama Ama having been there many times and knowing that we loved the food. Once there, realized that the menu had changed! A bit reluctantly, we tried a few new entres, the mussels, foie gras and the mac n cheese. The mac n cheese was good, though not as good as one on the previous menu (it was a little watery and not as falvorful), the foie was tasty, the mussels were horrible. I can certainly overlook new menu items that I dont like, but what I cannot overlook was the horrible service. We were at the bar, right in front of our server who knew we were a little unsure of the new menu items and she never once checked on us to see how things were. (no, the place was not busy). When we paid our bill and left the ENTIRE order (minus 4) of mussles, there was no question or comment about why. We will not return simply because of the service.. or lack thereof which is too bad, because it was one of our favorite places before last night.Great Food in a Dark Cave
Dined here at 6:30 on a Saturday night. We had the "large plates" -coho salmon and the grilled Kobe sirloin. Both were exceptional in the way the dishes enhanced taste through the imaginative presentation. The salmon was nicely seared with a near-perfect crust; taste boosted by beets, bacon, chanterelles and potato. The beef came with chanterelles, edamame, mushroom ravioli and a olive caramel coulis. Service was excellent. The place is very dark - takes very good eyes to read the menu. The noise level is fairly high, not a good spot for a romantic date. The Worst Meal in a Long Time
I dined this week with a friend at Ama Ama. The visit started out badly when the bartender knew nothing about the wine. She mistook the name of the wine region, the only information on the wine list, to be the name of the wine. So we take off points for the uninformative wine list and the unknowledgeable bartender. We ordered to dishes and two salads. The salads were OK, nothing special. One dish was a roasted mussel dish. The mussels were totally carbonized and to make matters worse, were doused with excessive hot sauce or chiles. The other dish was a scallop and beef cheek . This dish was notable for it's absence of beef cheek. The waitress was notable for her absence! The kitchen couldn't get both dishes out at the same time. And to top everything off they charge for a few slices of non desrcript baguette!Perfect for West Seattle!!
I came here for new years! I have been in earlier this year for there oysters and was impressed but thought it was mediocre. The new menu is wonderful, just to name a few, clams with shorizo (sp?), there kobe steak with ravioli that went perfect with the wine. It was packed and I dont like packed places but the staff did well, ( I know this because I have been in the buisness before). Not sure if it ususally gets an audience like this or because of all the posters "tagged" on every corner of the junction. This is why I was interested in the first place because the flyer stated free champaigne and a DJ. The DJ set the vibe with a jazzy not too much of a rappish style. My girlfriend loved it. Our plans were to go downtown but we stayed because of the atmosphere. Im just a walk away from them and I will be back and was also informed by a staff member that they usually have live music on Thursdays, and he said it is always a great group playing. Count me in!Decent Happy Hour, Tasty Kobe Burger
Ama Ama has a decent happy hour including both drink and food specials. The $5 Cosmos were pretty strong and the $14 Kobe Burger was extra tasty even though it wasn't discounted. There's also a menu with $3 and $5 small plates to round out the offerings The ambiance is interesting and very "swank", but it matches the quality of the food. The Kobe Beef Burger we had was great and the mac and cheese was definitely worth the $5 happy hour price.well enough
well this place is for bar hoppers... i like it here because the place is not that bad.. you better guys check this place out... you'll understand what i mean..Great Oysters!
Great food, oysters are delicious, and the service was fantastic. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Yummy!Hidden gem
This is a great little place in West Seattle. I have driven by it many times, but never went since I expected a high price, fancy, asian-themed fish restaurant. What I got was something entirely different. It had a wide range of meal options from cod to veal to sirloin and lobster. The menu was diverse and all the options made my mouth water. I would highly recommend the veal and the lamb. The spring salad and the spot prawns were delicious as well. Definitely a place I would go back to and would recommend everyone to triy it out.Gone Downhill
After they first opened it was a great spot but they've tweaked the menu and gone down the "Precious-food-as-art" road which always turns me off.Worldwide > United States > Seattle, WA > Seafood Restaurants
