GREAT CARE
i took my pet to the elmhurst animal emergency hospital on a saturday night because my dog was very sick with vomitting and my regular vet was closed. i was very happy with the care they provided. the doctor was very friendly, as well as the other employees. i would definitely recommend this hospital . its good to know they are there. They diserve less then a star!
A week ago Sunday my dog was hit by a car and he got his hind led lacerated where bone and tendon were exposed. We went to Elmhurst animal hospital which was one of the only hospitals open at that time in my area. The hospital would not admit him until we paid them and when we could only come up with $500 on a Sunday evening told us they could only clean and bandage the wound until we came up with the rest of the balance. The entire bill was est. $1700.00 and they charged me $430.00 that night to clean the wound and wrap it up they also gave him pain meds to get him through the night. They told me that he needed surgery and that I should get the rest of the $1300+ money together because the chances of infection were high. The very next day I got $1000 together and decided to take him to his regular vet, when I called them to have the chart sent over they decided to lower the surgery to $1000 and scheduled him for surgery that same day. I went ahead with the surgery because i had beenDOCTOR DID NOTHING TO SAVE PEGGY!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND ELMHURST ANIMAL EMERGENCY!!! Not only was this hospital very expensive, but the staff did little if not nothing to save our lovely bird Peggy. We had Peggy for six years. . . .During the last couple of days she stopped eating and seemed very weak. We brought her to Elmhurst Animal Emergency on Sunday, Mother's Day, because all other vet's were closed. The doctor told us to leave Peggy there for one day to have her in IV and under antibiotics. The doctor made it seem as if Peggy would be able to survive hospitalized. Three hours later we called in regards to Peggy's health. The doctor told us that Peggy was weak and in fact worse. He said he would call us to update us about Peggy's health. He still could not tell us exactly what was wrong with Peggy. We decided not to wait any longer if she was already worse and pick her up. When we got to the hospital, they asked us to wait a couple of minutes because the doctor was busy with another animal. Ten minutes later, the doSTAFF MORE WORRIED ABOUT ORDERING FOOD THAN TAKING CARE OF MY PET!!
This is the single most loathsome animal clinic in the world. The staff look like morons wright out of a Rob Zombie movie, and the so called Doctor...wow, a real horroro show. The wait was like two hours, and there was only one dog before me. The staff including the Doctor were more worried on ordering their food than attending their patients. When i finally got in, the Doctor couldn't figure out what was wrong with my pet, unfortunatley misdiagonsing him. My pet continued with same symptoms, took him somewhere else and they told me that they had heard tons of horror stories from this joint. If you care about your pet, please avoid this hellholeMy frequent visits to Elmhurst Animal Emergency Hospital.
I am now a frequent visitor of Elmhurst Animal Emergency Hospital and if I would have followed the advice posted on this very same website I would have never found this wonderful place.Understanding communication and real love for animals
We adopted a 7 lb poodle last Wednesday, the day he was altered (I don't know where). Friday night, he developed complications and our vet was closed. Their phone message referred us here, and we had a wonderful experience. We have been looking for a vet for years and we are considering using Elmhurst as our primary vet, despite the wait for non-critical cases. It would be worth the 30 minute trip from home to have care that we trust, that is communicated clearly and completely from a staff that really cares about our dog and cat. Thank you Elmhurst Animal Emergency, you are professionals who care - a rare breed indeed. And the charges were reasonable - four vets in the last 6 years and we know what UNreasonalble charges are!Wonderful doctor's and staff!!!!!!
One saturday night I was walking my boxer Rocky who some how got out of his leash. He ran into the street and was struck by a car. He was lying on his side bleeding from his nose and mouth. I was hysterical. I did not know where to take him. I called my regular doctor and he left this emergency room telephone number and address. I rushed him there. I ran to ask for help. The technician and receptionist both ran out to help me. The vet on that night was fantastic he rushed rocky to the back and immediately gave him oxygen. They saved Rocky's life that night. Rocky and I still visit this hospital occasionally just to say hi to the vet and the staff who are all amazing. When I got home and sat in front of my computer to write this review and could not believe all of the harsh things that was said. As far as price is concerned they are emergency so there fee's are slightly higher but it's not as bad as some people made it seem. These people saved my dog's life. I am so happy to know that telmhurst animal hospital
nice hospital, doctors were thorough , the blood work was done in the hospital, which was good...i would definitly go back if i needed to. its good that they are open 24 hours , 7 days a week just in caseDONT GO
My pet was recently hit by a car. I rushed him to this hospital and it was horrible. The staff is not professional at all. The woman at the reception area was more concerned about getting my credit card information then taking my dog to the back to see a vet. I understand that they need to make sure that they receive payment for services rendered, but the dog was bleeding out of his nose and all she could ask was how are paying for this? Besides their lack of compassion the place was filthy.Fast action, kind attitude at Elmhurst Animal Emergency
I rushed my cat to Elmhurst Animal Emergency on a Saturday morning after he had a terrible attack of breathing difficulty at home. I ran in hysterically because my kitty had stopped breathing in the cab a few minutes before we got there. The receptionist did not ask for payment or credit cards; she ran out, grabbed my cat out of his carrier, and rushed him in back. Unfortunately it was too late and they could not save him. They were very compassionate, brought him back out and left us alone for me to say goodbye, when I was ready explained the options for taking care of the remains, and charged a very reasonable fee. While I can't say it was a good experience under the circumstances, I found this clinic to be competent, fast, clean, and caring.Crooks!!!!!!!!!!
I woke up one morning and found my 9 year old shih-tzu on the floor not moving. I turned the lite on and realized she was still alive but could barely move her head. It was about 7am and my regular vet was closed. My wife and I took her to this place to try and save her but realizing that she didn't look good. After placing and IV and bringing her blood sugar back up the Vet suggested X-Rays and more blood work because he claimed he wasn't sure what was wrong with her. His Assistant then came to us with an estimate of about $2,000 and kept telling us how if we take her somewhere else they might not have the proper equipment. This amount was not including any surgery she might need and keep in mind she was basically gone when we took her there. So my wife and I decided to take her to our regular vet at this time. We arrived at our Vet and 15 minutes after arriving, without X- rays or blood work or keeping her there for 3 days or surgery, we where told that she had a serious uterus infeKind, Compassionate, Professional !!!!!
I rushed my eight year old pitbull to this hospital after being hit by a car. I honestly thought my dog was dead. As soon as I walked in the receptionist told me to go directly in a room. The doctor as well as his assistant ran into the room told me he went into cardiac arrest and immediately took my dog to the back and SAVED HIS LIFE!!! Once my dog was breathing on his own the doctor told me what he recommends. The receptionist then went over the estimate with me. Fees were reasonable taking into consideration it was 12:30 am and every veterinarian was closed. I would recommend this hospital to anyone with an emergency. Doctor's were great, staff was awesome.what a horrible hospital
I'd rather let my 12 year old niece treat my dying animal then these people. They are absolutely disgusting. No care at all for the animals in their care. If anyone calls in an emergency their protocol is to say I'm sorry, in order for us to fully be able to tell you what is wrong with your pet you HAVE to bring it in. It is imperative for you to do so if you'd like your animal to survive. You can call in a cough and this is what they'll say (only difference is, they don't have as good a vocabulary as you'd expect college graduates to have.)They do this so they can start charging you as soon as you walk in the door. it's disgusting. can you imagine a human hospital doing this? I don't think pets deserve that risk. What others have posted is true. This is a business, nothing more. If you can't prove that you have the money with you at that moment, they won't take your pet. This company [they have 2 other locations with the same agenda] definitely deserves NO stars. They take full and cShame on Maspeth Animal Hospital! Crooks!
These people are scams: They asked me for a letter from the breeder stating that my kitten's parents were leukemia free, so they didn't have to test him OR TO GIVE HIM THAT SHOT.I specifically told them NOT to give a leukemia shot to my kitten and that I was going to get the letter. We brought the letter (they knew already that I did NOT want to give him the leukemia shot) and they did it anyway, without my consent. My kitten was agonizing after he came back home, he was in such pain that I couldn't even touch him because he started screaming. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place to anybody. The right thing to do is to tell the owner of the animal what they are going to do. Some things are not necessary. In this case, why giving the poor baby a shot that is not recommended? He'll be inside all the time, he doesn't need that. Even if I decided to give him the shot, it could had been done another time, not the same day they gave him another shot.Beware of these people: they are not professionalsIt' shameful to read some of the comments below
It's shameful to read some of the comments below, I have been to Elmhurst Animal Emergency Hospital on multiple occasions and I would rather go there then my regular veterinarian. You can walk in at anytime, they are opened 24 hours. The exam fee is only 20 dollars more than my regular vet and the staff, the staff is great. I have just one suggestion to all those pet owners that complain about the emergency hospital; owning a pet is a privilege and not a necessity, so please if you happen to take in a lovely animal into your home, ask yourself, can I afford the proper care if my new member of the family gets sick and if the answer is no, then there is a high probability that you should reconsider that cute dog or cat and settle on a goldfish (they require minimal effort). My cat was diagnosed with diabetes, which requires me and my Simon to follow up with the hospital for blood work tests, I am very thankful that the Doctors and Staff of Elmhurst Animal Emergency Hospital are there tUuummm no the reviews are not shameful they are ABSOLUTELY TRUE
Uuummm no the reviews are not shameful they are ABSOLUTELY TRUE, this hospital only cares about the money!!! not only do they over charge but they WILL NOT TREAT YOUR PET if you do not have enough funds. I took my 3 month old pup there after he seemed dizzy, off balance, was tripping and falling, could not stand own his own etc.... I rushed him to Elmhurst Emergency hospital, I explained that it might have been a heart warm pill (interceptor) I just gave him for the 1st time, they agreed he was off but was not sure exactly what it was, for me to leave him over night to run blood work and to monitor him the famous assistant then comes in with a bill stating it will cost from $983 to $1183. We had to leave $983 in order to leave the dog, when I stated we did not have that kind of money, they said I would have to take the dog home then. I could not believe my ears... my dog could have been dying for all I know.. I then told them I only had $200 so they decided to give him IV with fluMy kitten had a good experience here
I brought my kitten there at 10pm because he was urinating foam and I was worried it could be something serious. The doctor was VERY nice and answered all the questions I had. He was very nice to my kitten and gave him all the tests he should have and send them to a lab for a second opinion. The assistant was a little annoying when she ran in with the price but it's really understandable. I've never had health insurance for myself my whole life and when I had to go to the ER in Elmhurst Hospital the doctors were awful and didn't help me with my pain, then I received a bill for $2,500 for 1hour in the ER. So paying $350 for 1 hour in an animal hospital for my kitten and having them take full tests then fax the results to my regular vet is completely reasonable.Facts on Elmhurst Animal Emergency Hospital
I've done some research on Elmhurst Animal Emergency Hospital:Dr. Short is kind and compassionate.
Dr. Short at Elmhurst Animal Emergency Hospital is a great doctor, kind and compassionate. She took great care of my dog Lola. Lola jumped of the bed one morning and screamed in pain, I rushed her to the emergency hospital. At the Hospital the doctor took great diligence in helping my Lola get better. Even though a torn cruciate takes a long time to heal, the fast action to help my dog was greatly appreciated. Thank you Dr. Short.heartless people, unless you have money, they cant do anything
i was previously an owner of 7 guinea pigs, before i went here. my 5 week old piggies seemed ok,but 1 of them had stopped eating, and diddnt look concious. i called my vet, but the specialist woulndt be in for 2 days. when i came home from work the next day, he was dead. afew hours l;ater, another one of them had started looking ill. he was laying on the floor breathing very heavy. since it was 2 am, and i thought he was dieing, i stayed up all night with him, and he wouldnt die. i noticed another babie starting to look very skinny. all of this happened in a matter of a day. in a panic, i called my vet, and got fefered to elmhurst. we got there at 7 am. the vet wouldnt take the dieing baby until i finished all the paper work on all of the sick guineapigs. then they took them into there room which was freezing cold, and told us they had parasites. they wanted to charge us over $700 to put the one to sleep, give medication, and for the viset. after countless hours trying to find a speciaWorldwide > United States > Elmhurst, Queens, NY > Veterinarians
