: I created a national certification to teach builders, remodelers, occupational& physical therapists and a number of other disciplines how to build am modify homes so people can age in place instead of having to move to assisted living and lose their independence. I created a partnership between the AARP and the National Association of Home builders. Google "CAPS" or "Certified Aging in Place Specialist" on either site to learn more. CAPS has thousands of graduates across the country, has helped millions of people, and is still growing fast to meet the demands of our rapidly aging population. The courses not only teach the construction how-to's but also teach how to customize homes to fit families over a lifetime, especially people with a physical challenge and/or cognitive disability. I still teach the courses across the country, and won the first national "Instructor of the Year" award from the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) in 2012.
