High price for average work - nothing exceptional here

Unable to give even an estimate over the phone. Once you take your car to them, it's either pay for the tow service (if required) without having them even open the hood or they completely tear-down the transmission and rebuild it. When I asked what needed to be done I was told they would only do the necessary work in order to keep costs to a mimimum for me. When I picked up the truck ('97 Jimmy 4x4) it was over $2K and the repairs were limited only to a complete teardown and rebuild.

I asked what happened to keeping on the low side and was told that they only do complete tear-down and rebuild. Would have been nice to know that up front so I could compare their prices to other places instead of being told that they would only do necessary work.

After picking up the car, there was a clicking-grinding noise coming from the front end once in a while. It took me a couple of weeks to be able to identify where it was coming from and when I took the car back to them, they said it was in the locking hubs (push-button 4x4) and that it was an unrelated problem to the work they had performed. Strange that the problem only started on the day that I picked it up from them.

The check engine light started coming on regularly after picking up the truck to which they thought perhaps they had fouled an O2 sensor. They replaced it at their cost. Turns out that wasn't the problem after all. At least they didn't charge me for the sensor. Light still comes on periodically.

They are very eager to get you in, but very vague on the ellusive estimate before work starts.

Vehicle was promised in 4 days and delivered on time. Shop is friendly but I still can't give them a very high rating based on my overall experience. Before going back to them, I will definately shop around for a better deal.

If you don't mind paying a bit too much (in my opinion), they will get the job done for you. Seventeen months later and tranny is still holding up with no further problems.
